Dragon Ball is a Japanese anime television series produced by Toei Animation.It is an adaptation of the first 194 chapters of the manga of the same name created by Akira Toriyama, which were published in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1984 to 1988. The anime is composed of 153 episodes that were broadcast on Fuji TV from February 26, 1986, to April 19, 1989.

Like the original dub of DragonBall, the Ocean Group's dub of Dragon Ball Z was heavily edited forcontent, reducing the first 67 episodes into 53. The dubbed episodespremiered in the United States on The WB in September 1996, though itwas eventually canceled in May 1998. During the fall of the same year,the dub began airing on Cartoon Network as part of the channel's newToonami programming block. Soon after, Funimation Entertainmentcontinued dubbing the series from where the syndicated dub left off,now using their own in-house voice actors at Funimation Studios, a newmusical score, and less editing. The new dub of Dragon Ball Z ran onCartoon Network from September 1999 to April 2003.
In August2004, Geneon Entertainment lost its licensing rights to the old OceanStudios dubbed episodes of Dragon Ball Z, allowing Funimation to re-dubthe first 67 episodes, restore the removed content and replace the olddubbing with the Funimation Studios voice cast. These re-dubbedepisodes aired on Cartoon Network throughout the summer of 2005. Theepisodes dubbed by Funimation Studios also aired in Canada, the UnitedKingdom, the Netherlands, Australia, and the Republic ofIreland. In 2006, Funimation Entertainment canceledthe Ultimate Uncut DVD releases, remastered the episodes, then beganre-releasing it across nine individual season boxsets. The first setwas released on February 6, 2007; the final season on May 19, 2009. InJune 2009, Funimation announced that they would be re-releasing DragonBall Z and the films in a new seven volume set called the 'DragonBoxes'. Based on the original series masters with frame-by-framerestoration, the first set is due to be released November 10, 2009.
